Post Opening and upcoming projects

Ok so art exhibit almost over - not been a effective use of my time or resources. Gallery painfully quiet. I have some nice photos, have boxes of bagged stickers, temp tatoos, art on card, cardboard figurines, sticker packs for merch. Range of prices from 2-2000. Works all pre made leftovers and stuff i collected from years of festivals and teaching so mostly arranging existing stuff.

Publicity and running show from another state pretty hard. Opening with the captive audience into a hipster food cart court was terrible, show looks ok for 4 hour tight hanging. Workshops all booked out and Im only being charged commission no fees so thats ok. Will get some nice pix.

Anyway will get back to some regular posts for Xor, Hell and my monster manual and spell lists. Thinking of my next house rule book version 3 First zine size with basics four classes and spell lists and quite possibly monsters could be ready three months - might make some generic treasure hoards too. To be a quick version and if new players joing my game for one off the book will have basics to quickly make a first to 20th level character in 5 minutes

Advanced book will introduce 4 races and 4 more classes plus complete skill system a list of monster skills and abilities standardized is something to consider. Will include basic spell lists for bard and elf - i still like these classes being able to pick one of any spell list types but having own will be almost a bonus choice or can be used for newcomers. I want systems for beginners to streamline choices for speed and experienced players to go gonzo with skills and abilities.

Also thinking that the idea of a magic assassin class is just a bard mod with possible a different powers is appealing. Considering other alternatives to bard including philosopher but im still nutting out abilities - I had ideas of a sneaky monk thief psionic type but now i could just do as a type of bard. So im open to using basic bard for all kinda mystical and skill using human weirdos

Ugh gallery even worse today and workshop cancelled. Best outcomes is my photos and catalog writing for show and all my cheap merch is bagged and packed and priced. I sorted lots of my stuff and found lots of salable things and just this exercise helped my storage be more efficient. Im gonna ditch most of my old stock and do bigger more expensive works for a while and swing away from the DIY crowd who have been flooded by less amusing people as a scene. I guess the OSR is kinda the DIY of gaming as lots of it is maker focused. Contrive more means to use all my art supply stocks then go more digital. I have former sponsers who owe me hundreds in art supplies I dont really have room for. I might just dontate lots to local aboriginal kids. I would love to sell my own dnd stuff a zine fair.

d100 Poems and why your bards are lame

A friend has been using my shadelport theatre tables for a dwarf theatre fan in his dnd game and i was reminded of fun i had with these. Poems are handy for bard performances, to find on scrolls or possible quest subjects or clues.

Poems can be competitive and performers might battle in a genre or extolling useful virtues of a date palm vs a coconut palm. Contests might be in courts or public as entertainment or serious duels with high stakes. Bards in play should battle bards or compose a new popular poem that people want to hear (or steal or copy). Performing from memory a famous poem might be a challenge too.
Each poet might recite a stanza. Boasting is popular with some contests, insults are common too. Some contests take turns to compose a original verse with turns to improvise a stanza. A subject might be given by a judge.

Arabic poets have many fomal battle modes - this was a good bit:
al-Nābighah al-Dhubyāni (ca. 535–ca. 604), one of the great court poets of Arabic literature, served as the first judge, and where the seventh-century female poet al-Kansā gained fame for her elegies for her brothers, who had died in battle, and dueled with the likes of Hind Bint ‘Atabah and Hassān Ibn Thābit. When al-Nābighah suggested that she was the best of poets with a uterus, she responded “and of those with testicles as well!”

Anytime great bards or poets meet people will expect a contest. Some will be bitter and shame the loser some will elevate both or produce a collaborative work. Great battles might be the subject of worked by later bards.

Contests light be judged by most important person, most attractive lady, oldest man, greatest scholar, a priest or the mob. If you offend a great poet or cheat them look out, they are vindictive and might curse or lampoon someone who wrongs them.

Occasionaly a ruler encourages poets and attracts art and culture. Whith more bards schools start and battles become commonplace.

I might make a separate bard and elf spell list one day.

These might also be subjects of artworks canvas, vases, metalwork or prints. Most frequently they are scrolls or books and quite valuable.

The Hellbog Part 2 - A living world of death

So I have repeated my basic format from previous hell posts but will do a third part set out more like my dungeon zones made for lower level adventurers in a horrible but more worldly swamp. Will also feature items and mysteries. The encounters here will include more planar creatures.

As said before devils are lawful tormentors in hell but this hell the landscape is the main tormentor. Devils here are reluctant either on a mission or themselves are banished here. Demons like it here as there are less devils to bother them with rules and many come here on a mission such as the demon bounty hunters. Demons that do too well bring forth a army of devils to destroy them.

Lots of my dungeons are intelligent and evil. This is my first detailed outdoor attempt. The swamp is hostile and malicious. It magically ruins any sense of direction. It keeps visitors wandering in circles in the outer zone, goading them with encounters, temptations and terrain hazards. Mapping it is pointless. The inner zone is a wasteland or treetrunks, thorns, black mud, plague carrying insects and then the final heart. Here the swamp souls can manifest as different beings. In the past it battled gods. Some say it was less horrible land spirit once but was corrupted during primordial wars with gods and monsters. Some say it's children were slain making it bitter. Other say it refused to let humankind tame it and evil planar beings aided it as a bullwark against human kind.

Remnants of pre human monster empires and early human settlements can be found in the swamp. Also the swamp protects degenerate rural inbred cannibals clans driven out of more wholesome areas. They live in shacks and survive in the swamp not noticing it's more hellish properties.

The earthly hellbog and the swamp lands of hell overlap and you might wander from one into the other. The earthly swamp god if fed up with adventurers might send them to hell. Hell is less likely to send anything to the worldly swamp but does send undead and monsters through. Demons and devils of hell have used the swamp to ascend to the mortal world and at least once a small army of devils came out to burn a adventurers stronghold. This possibly happened more in ancient times. The elves nearby still carry silver.

Several evil villagers and the whaling town of Bloodsand are said to have unseemly connection to the swamps. Cultists and bandits for miles around hide on the fringes of the swamp and it leaves them in peace. Some settle in swamp and it protects them unlike intruders.

Evil beavers build all kinds of hazards for intruders including traps, walls pits. They worship the bog god

Local Druids have battled the swamp for aeons with initiates visiting it for initiations and senior druids near final days retiring into the swamp to fight the unatural blight. Evil druid sects worshiping the swamp have thrived in the past but the jealous swamp has kept power for itself. The occasional cannibal clan elder might use druid spells.

Hazzards are things that impede travel but can be avoides. Encounters are harder to avoid and mostly hostile meetings with swamp denizens.
