Haunted Chariot Barracks and back

My bronze age Exilon game caught up and players went to ruins from their home village without trouble and stopped by their friends the snake cults. Our bold fighter, cunning wizard and the draconic changeling druid had brought two bodyguards and for of their friendly graverobber clansmen (all thieves).

Told the snake people  about their plans of the next ruin the Chariot Barracks of the old city. (changeling got on well with snake folk and had slept with two naga-gods by 4th Lv). The snake priest said beware that ruin is the source of a sprit chariot that roams the ruins by night chasing and terrorising and murdering those it catches. So warned they stayed in that night and rested. In morning they marched and while a bit past the granary and that dryad who total party charmed them before. The warriors per robin tweeted about some threat and from the sun 4 harpies attacked. These harpies produced fear not charm and drove off half the party minions and caused havok before two were killed and the rest fled. One fell to ground with a fleep spell and then got an entangle spell on it and then shot by arrows and spells till dead.

Unimpressed they set off to the haunted ruin. The courtyard was open and the doorways seem very dark. From the stables a spectral chariot with 3 crew and two horses charged out in the ancient style. It was a king who died before reaching a battle keen to kill to make up for his failure. The heroes nobbled the ghost horses first then the charioteer. The King and his guard proved quite a problem. After the battle several were revived but one was in a coma and needed help near death or days rest. So seeing the haunted stable was now normally lit and not oddly cold they looted it. The best item were 4 master craft tool sets magic to make them more invulnerable.

They decided as spells down and all hurt to go back across the open ruin area. And then the centaurs came in a great cloud of dust. Burdened with many hurt and spells almost nil the battle was very fierce. Most of the battle the party feared being killed. At one point as the surviving ones fled one grappled the changeling assuming the beardless human was a lady like with centaurs. He eventually escaped and an older wiser centaur pointed out that human might not be a lady and they all fled.

Staggered back to the snake temple to safety and rested a week. Some new spells were learned and some more oaths taken.

  1. Do you have a d100 list for generating the ruins for your bronze age game?

    1. This city was from a 3-fold zine i did - there is a longer adventure i did with an ancient ruined city - both Patreon. I also use elements from the below.

All in part inspired by archaeology of the near east books and architecture. Lots of these surface ruins are quite simple mostly a lair. There are lots of good real ruin maps online.

      this is the closest
